Each year, CAISL students sit Reading, Math, and Language Usage tests called “MAP” (Measures of Academic Progress®). The graphics show how CAISL students did on the Fall 2020 test compared to those who took MAP in the United States, in international schools around the world, and in American schools assisted by the Office of Overseas Schools of the United States Department of State.
The Parent Support Group (PSG) invited a group of 11th Grade students taking IB Psychology class to talk about the popular documentary movie “The Social Dilemma.” Watching (and also participating!) were CAISL parents from all age groups and a few students interested in the discussion.
Beginning last Monday and through this Tuesday, CAISL students wore a rainbow of colors representing each trait of our hidden curriculum.
On Monday, January 18th, CAISL Elementary students gathered online for an assembly in remembrance of Martin Luther King day.
The IB Theatre juniors and seniors took part in a Virtual TAPs ISTA Festival – with an intense schedule dedicated solely to the exploration of theatre.
Last Saturday, January 9th, part of our Varsity students were able to go back to sports practices, even if in a different way.
CAISL hosted alumni zoom calls for the 2018-20 graduate classes. During these three 2 hour sessions, an average of 20 alumni and 4-5 teachers joined to share in the CAISL Community spirit.
Our young artists created a video showing how they work in class, and talking about their ideas and creative process.
Our Community Service club kept the tradition of collections and fund raising to mark the Holiday season.
This week, CAISL has two very special premiers: the Winter Showcase, featuring students from EC3/4 to Grade 5, and the Winter Concert, involving all secondary students participating in music electives.
Middle School went off to the Holidays with spirits up and neatly decorated trees.
the Parent Support Group launched a challenge to the whole community: a Landscape Photography Contest around the theme “Autumn in Portugal.”
Winter has sure arrived to stay, and rainy days mean indoor break time. This doesn't make spending time with class friends any less fun.
Community Service club is supporting two worthy causes during this Holiday season: the Lisbon Project and Make a Wish foundation.
Our school community donated 1740 kg of non-perishable food to Banco Alimentar. Thank you to all who contributed for such an outstanding number!
Our Middle School Drama students took a trip to the past and worked on two silent films.
As Thanksgiving is approaching, our students took the chance to reflect on all they are grateful for, and have expressed this through art, writing and a special video dedicated to CAISL's staff.
Our EC 3/4 students decided that being physically distanced wouldn't get in the way of expressing their thanks to all the important people in their lives.
Our Kindergartners took inspirations from Paul Klee's work and made their own creatures using lines and and color during their art lessons.
5th Graders have been working hard during music lessons, and their skills have grown immensely since the year started.
Iberian Model United Nations (IMUN) 2020 was one like no other. For the first time, the conference was held fully online, and this new experience showcased the resilience and willingness to adapt and excel in all participating students.
CAISL is collecting non-perishable food to donate to the food bank Banco Alimentar. The collection isn't over yet and Middle School alone has already gathered over 400 kg of food!
Our Kindergarteners have been working hard on their reading and writing skills, and this effort shows on their early writing exercises.
High School Art students took inspiration from social media to produce a series of artwork, currently on display at the snack-bar for other students and teachers to enjoy.

Our Middle and High School Orchestra prepared a sweet Halloween treat for Parents and Students. Each in their bubble, students played the main theme from "Pirates of the Caribbean". Ms. Elena then used some video magic to put her orchestra together, and the result is fantastic!
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, and our Secondary students celebrated the date with a debate session on issues that affect today's world.
As we get ready for Halloween, ghosts, scary pumpkins and spiders are staring to crawl up the Middle School and Elementary atria.
Our first graders read Splat the Cat by Rob Scotton and were inspired to create beautiful art work.
This was a big week for Grade 5 Orchestra! Students played their first music piece together, and they sounded beautiful.

Our Library Media Center is sharing some of their community library items. We have books in English and Portuguese for parents to take home and read at their own leisure (no need to return them). This selection changes every day, so make sure to have a look while waiting for the children!

Participants of the 2020 “Set Sail for Adventure!” summer reading challenge were recognized in a virtual medal ceremony on Friday, September 25th. Congratulations to all of our participants!
The Scientific Picture Competition is a CAISL HS activity where in the end of each school year, 11th and 12th science students present - according to individual and personal criteria - their most aesthetically-pleasing photo taken during the year. The single rule is that each image must relate strongly to science and be original.
On Saturday, September 19th, over 40 seniors came in to participate in the CAISL college day. Sessions focused on the main destinations for our students—the US, the UK, Portugal, the Netherlands and a general session on Europe.
Middle Schoolers and their teachers made the best of the sunny days we had in these first weeks of school and had classes outside.

The Graduation Ceremony of 2020 was unique. Each member of the Class was invited with their immediate family for a private graduation ceremony that was then put together in a video for all to watch and remember. Here is a summary of this unique Graduation which will not be forgotten.
CAISL's children's day couldn't be a happier one! Today we welcomed back our EC and Kindergarten students, after more than two months of class@home.

Strings instruments and crazy hats go together just perfectly, as our Orchestra students showed on the evening of February 6th at the Mad Hatter Tea Party Concert.
