On June 3rd, we received all our Seniors one last time at CAISL, to celebrate their High School Graduation. The theater was filled with families and friends of the 57 graduates, all ready to cheer them on through this bittersweet ceremony that marked the end of their school journeys.

On May 26 and 27, Middle School Musical Theater students presented their performance of “The Addams Family”.

Last Friday, a group of CAISL parents gathered to help our Grades 10 and 11 students learn more about life after High School.

Last week Middle Schoolers enjoyed a fantastic learning opportunity, the Week Without Walls.

Last weekend, May 6^th and 7^th, CAISL students and staff rolled up their sleeves to give back to the community.

Our elementary students received a special treat this week. On May 10^th, EC3 through Grade 5 students went to our theater to see the play “Tejo por um Fio”, presented by guest artist Sofia Vieira.

On Friday, April 28th, our Grades 1 through 4 presented their Spring Showcase. The Theater was completely full, with families anxiously awaiting the performance to come, and they were not disappointed by this amazing show.

On April 20-22, a group of 9 Juniors and 2 chaperones travelled to Tadim (Braga) to work with Associação Humanitária Domus/ Fuller Center for Housing. This project allows the construction and purchase of a home, at a reduced and fair price, by refugee families.

Between April 20 and 22, Divisions 3, 4 and 5 played the Spring Tournament, wrapping up the sports season.

Grade 5 Portuguese Native Language students learned about biographies these last few lessons. Together with their teachers, they came up with a creative idea on how to present their final projects: a living wax museum, where each “statue” could tell its story.

On the evening of April 18th, CAISL hosted a very special event, the National Honor Society (NHS) Induction Dinner, gathering students, parents, and teachers for this ceremony.

In April, CAISL is celebrating the month of the Military Child with different activities. With many students having their parents serving in the military, this was a great way to recognize them and listening to their experiences.

Falling walls, actors who are knocked out, props that are not where they are supposed to be, dismantled mantels, jammed doors, an ever-present stage crew. . . these are just a few of the things that (pretend to) go wrong in the High School drama production.

CAISL was the host to this year’s ‘RoboMed’, a robotics competition using LEGO® programmable robots organized by MAIS (Mediterranean Association of International Schools).

MAIS Honor Choir Barcelona 2023 was the 31st edition of the Mediterranean Association of International Schools. It was the first full scale MAIS Honor Choir festival after COVID, and for our students, it was the first choir festival the school has attended in 3 years.

On March 30th, CAISL hosted the 18th Junior Model United Nations (JMUN) conference under "The Environment" theme.

Critiqued by a small but vocal number of Mexican authors, and highly controversial since its publication in 2020, Jeanine Cummins’s novel "American Dirt" has sold over three million copies.

Our Varsity Boys Soccer and Girls Basketball teams played their local tournaments last weekend.

On the evening of March 21st, High School students and families gathered in the theater for the Tri-M Music Honor Society, the Honorable Art Society and the Thespian Troup inductions.

A highly anticipated event, the Senior Art Show "The Looking Glass" opened it's doors on March 21st. The exhibit showcases artworks created since September 2021 by seniors from the combined IB art and Advanced Art II courses.

On March 17th, Grade 5 students invited their parents to participate in their Fine Arts classes and see how much they learned during the trimester.

CAISL took three IB Music students to share their talent in the Jazz Night on March 16th.

CAISL's Math teachers took advantage of Pi Day - March 14th - to do a whole week of Pi celebration.

This Monday and Tuesday, CAISL Varsity Boys Basketball played the European Sports Conference (ESC) tournament, hosting schools from Switzerland, Germany and Spain.

Between March 9 and 11, CAISL's Varsity Swim team traveled to Belgium for their Swim meet. This was a premier for CAISL, but our athletes still got amazing results.

On March 10th, the Wheeler High School Jazz Band visited CAISL and worked with Choir students, before performing for all MS students on stage.

Last night CAISL was STEAMing with activity – throughout the evening there were activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math for every taste and age.

March 8th is International Women's Day, and Grade 1 took this chance to learn more about the importance of the date.

After rigorous auditioning, an amazing group of six CAISL students was selected to participate in the AMIS International High School Choir Festival that took place in Oman in early March.

Between March 2nd and 5th, CAISL hosted the first ISTA Festival to combine arts as diverse as theater, dance, music and visual arts.

Wearing funny hats with plenty joy and excitement, string orchestra and IB Music students entertained the audience with solo and small ensemble pieces.

During the month of February CAISL had its first, official Secondary Chess Tournament.

CAISL's theater boiled with excitement as elementary students got ready fir their Carnival parade. All of the students from EC3/4 through Grade 5 participated by dressing up in Carnival costumes, and parading (and dancing!) across the stage to the beat of drums played by the Adult Percussion Group.

At the end of each semester, CAISL teachers and Principals recognize students who, through their effort and exemplary behavior and academic performance, stood out as learners.

Why not take advantage of Valentine's day to do some fundraising? That is what our National Honor Society (NHS) and Thespian Troup students thought, to help the victims of the Turkey and Syria earthquakes.

Eight grade 11 and 10 students attended the second talk in the FLAD organized series “Democracy, The Way Ahead” in Lisbon on February 15.

Our EC Informances (informal performances) took place this Valentine's Day, and what best way to celebrate love than playing music with parents and children?

On February 11th, CAISL Cross Country athletes took a bus to Vilamoura in the Algarve for the annual Cross Country Meet.

Last Friday's Talent Show revealed many beautiful voices, mesmerizing choreography, the most wonderful piano interpretations and even magician abilities.

CAISL hosted the SRT University Fair this Thursday, February 9th.

CAISL was honored to host this year’s Iberian Music Festival gathering three International Schools.

Our Divisions 5, 4 and 3 Girls and Boys Volleyball teams ended their sports season with a tournament, playing with several other local schools.

It was with great anticipation that our group of 20 grade 10-12 students departed for 55^th annual session of The Hague International Model United Nations Conference as the event had only been held online the past two years. 

The Middle School News team had the opportunity to interview two distinguished guests from the world of music: José Bruto da Costa, a Conductor with the Gulkenkian Choir, and Matthew Habib, an American Opera star who pursued his dream all the way to Germany, one of the opera capitals of the world.

This Wednesday the 18th CAISL celebrated the Chinese New Year, and shared different aspects of this important cultural event with all students.

This week we celebrated the hidden curriculum by wearing a different color each day.

This Monday, CAISL students celebrated Martin Luther King Day with several events during the day.

High School Art students learned about art movement in Europe from 1600 to 1900. Inspired by this learning, each reproduced a painting.

After being postponed due to inclement weather, the Winter Showcase was held this Friday afternoon, joining Grades 1 through 4 students and their families in the Theater.

Last Friday, CAISL welcomed back several Alumni from different graduation years.

Our EC3/4 and Kindergarten students received a very special visit in their classrooms. Among excited giggling and loud calls for Santa, he and his inseparable Elf helper entered each classroom.

The evening of Sunday, December 11th, marked a premier for CAISL. That night, our High School Choir, Advanced Orchestra and Adult Percussion Group gathered at the St. Paul's Cathedral in Lisbon for a very special concert: Songs by Candlelight.

Last weekend, our Varsity Boys Basketball and Varsity Girls Soccer teams played a well disputed tournament with other local teams.

The Winter Concert is always one of the highlights of the year, and this year was no exception.

On November 29th, CAISL's community gathered in the Theater to celebrate its importance in our school lives, and to name it honoring CAISL's former director, Ms. Blannie Curtis, who dedicated 25 years into building our school.

Just before the Thanksgiving weekend, our Middle School students invited all non teaching staff to the Theater, to thank them for their work in school.

A very awaited return after the pandemic, the Fall Tournament took place from November 17th through 19th.

CAISL held the 28th Annual Iberian Model United Nations conference. Over three days, students from all over the world came together to debate current issues.

The Parent Support Group (PSG) worked hard to prepare a special movie night to our Middle and High Schoolers. The selected movie (by the Students) was “Hamilton”, an American historical fiction musical drama movie.

This week CAISL's Elementary students received a wonderful musical treat. They gathered in the Theater to hear the US Naval Forces Europe and Africa Band.

After lunch time CAISL MS students gathered in the theater to share a full hour of science, technology, and even adventure.

This week, several CAISL alumni return to school to speak to our current High Schoolers about different career options, and how their own academic and professional paths brought them to the place they are now.

On Tuesday, October 25th, CAISL students and faculty celebrated the UN anniversary day by wearing white to symbolize peace.

Together with other high schoolers from a local school, students were given a problem solving task: to build a bridge that could stand freely between two tables, and that could support 500gr or more.

Ms. Leslie and Ms. Eileen are hosting a five week STEAM club during lunch recess. Students learned about gravity, Newton´s laws and chemical reactions.

Inspired by the James Webb Telescope pictures, upper Elementary Art students created a series of works that show all the wonderful colors and contrasts of the Universe.

Last Friday, October 14th, students gathered in the Theater or online from their classroom to hear from former US Navy Captain and Astronaut Heide Stefanyshyn-Piper.

During our space month, secondary students had the opportunity to dive into a podcast about an astronaut's personal experience while on a mission.

The traveling Planetarium from the "Centro de Ciência Viva de Constância" was set on stage for Kindergarten through Grade 6 students to visit and learn more about space.

In place of the traditional camping trip, our Middle School students and teachers were out on field days on September 28th, 29th and 30th.

This Tuesday, October 4th, CAISL was delighted to receive the visit of Dr. Humberto Campins, within the current space themed learning weeks.

Our Grade 1 students celebrated their diversity with a Multicultural Festival. What a wonderful and tasty way to learn!

We recognized the participants in our Blast Off to Summer Reading Challenge with a special medal ceremony in our theater.

After a three-year hiatus, the Parent Support Group (PSG) was able to bring back the Welcome Barbeque, a big family event gathering parents, students, staff and alumni.

CAISL students had the opportunity to learn about the “Science of Sound” through hands-on activities which connected the musical properties of marimbas with the principles of Physics.
