A family which applies for and receives financial assistance receives a reduction on required fees.

The reduction covers the required fees only (Tuition and/or Building Fee).

Financial Assistance is granted for one academic year at a time but may be reapplied for, as indicated below.

Since it is designed to help families through short-term difficulties, only one renewal is the expectation (for a total of 2 years on assistance). It may be extended for  further two years (or until graduation in the case of a student in Grades 10, 11 or 12) in case of a family’s continuing, substantial, and documented financial need  for a student who has a positive impact in the CAISL community and who  exemplifies the CAISL Mission at its highest level in all aspects of the “Values” of the school and the “Profile of the Learner”.

Families who pay the school fees privately (i.e. fees are not paid by a business or by a government)

Families with children enrolled at CAISL for at least one school year and who can provide documentation of significant and unforeseen financial need.

Families enrolling children for the first time.

Families enrolling an additional child at CAISL. Those new enrollees are not eligible for Financial Assistance

Families with children in the EC3, 4, or 5 program may not apply for assistance for these children but may do so for older siblings.

Families whose fees are paid by companies or governments.

The exact date when applications are due for the subsequent school year are published on the Fee Schedule which is published by the end of February.   However, the date is usually during the month of March.

Applications are accepted once per year for the subsequent school year.

The meeting of the Board of Trustees in mid to late April is largely devoted to a review of the applications for Financial Assistance.

Decisions are taken at the April meeting and will be communicated to the families by May 15th.

While it is possible to apply outside of the stated application period, the circumstances must be significant and both unforeseen and unforeseeable. Since the school budget allocated a set amount for financial assistance, it is possible that this money will already have been committed and no further assistance available.

The Board of Trustees reviews all of the applications for Financial Assistance and awards the assistance based on the applications submitted within the limits of the school budget.

Only current CAISL families may apply for Financial Assistance.

The information below will be necessary and should be prepared in advance:

• The last two salary receipts from the current fiscal year and employer - certified letters stating yearly salary, all allowances, and all benefits from the previous fiscal year;
• Global Position (Assets and Liabilities) accessed via e-banking for all Portuguese and Out of Country Banks;
• Copies of documents as proof of outstanding loans - only if different from point 3;
• Global position for other investments (ex. treasury certificates) - only if different from point 3;
• “Património Predial" from Finanças site for the fiscal numbers of each parent/ guardian and companies (if applicable) or documents proving ownership of real state elsewhere;
• “Cadastro de viaturas automóveis” from Finanças site for the fiscal numbers of each parent/legal guardian and companies (if applicable);
• Tax return records for the preceding two years; if the tax return for the most recent year is not yet available, a simulation must be submitted;
• Modelo 22 tax return for the preceding two years in the case of ownership of a company. If Modelo 22 of the most recent year is not available, the last “Balancete” and or “Balanço” and “Demonstração de Resultados” must be submitted;
• Copies of any document used for calculation of assets and expenses;
• Academic records and references for the child enrolling.
