Will my child need to be tested for entrance into CAISL?

The Admissions Office requires that school records from the previous three years be turned in with the application form. Copies of educational-psychological testing and/or individual educational plans, if they exist, must also be turned in. Admission is based on previous school records. In addition, students may be asked for an interview.

An English test is administered to students who are not native English speakers in Grades 9-12 to determine admission and/or placement. Students may be admitted up to and including Grade 8 with no prior knowledge of English, at the school's discretion and contingent on space in the program although CAISL may require an English test for those entering Grade 8.  For students who are not native speakers of English and who wish to be admitted to CAISL´s high school, please refer to our guidelines here.

Math tests are given for placement purposes to students entering Grades 9-12.

If your child is going into Middle School (Grades 6, 7, and 8) or High School (Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12), he or she might need to take a Portuguese as a Foreign Language Placement Test before the start of school in September. The purpose of the test is to determine the most appropriate level of Portuguese as a Foreign Language for your child. These tests are available on-line; to determine if your child needs to take this test, please follow the link in the Navigation sidebar on the left of the screen.

CAISL may require parents to submit the results of other academic tests or to update the educational-psychological test prior to admission if there a need for these records. This additional testing will be at parent’s expense.

Can my child be admitted if he/she has a diagnosed disability?

CAISL requires complete records (testing and medical) for all students applying with a diagnosed disability. Students with learning disabilities are admitted as long as the student’s records show, and his/her previous school verifies, that he/she can benefit from the CAISL program of studies, with support from the Learning Support faculty. If you wish to enroll a child with a special learning need, please apply early to give the Admissions Office and the Learning Support faculty, time to assess your child’s records and contact his/her current school.

CAISL’s building is fully accessible, so limited physical disabilities can be accommodated. Please apply early so we can ensure appropriate support.

Students with significant behavioral difficulties are unlikely to be admitted.

Students who need to be accompanied by a full-time assistant for learning needs or behavioral reasons are unlikely to be admitted.

Admission to any program requiring specialized support, including Learning and/or Medical needs, are contingent on the space in the program required.

When is the deadline for applications?

There is no deadline for submitting applications. In order to meet the needs of an increasingly mobile international population, CAISL will admit students throughout the school year, although it is in the students' interests if moves can take place after the end of one school year and before the start of the following year. Many grades do have waiting lists and it is therefore advisable to submit the application a year in advance.
