On the evening of April 10th, Grades 1 through 4 students presented one of the most awaited concerts of the year: the Spring Show. This event relates to the Hooked on Books program, when all students from a school section read the same book and get creative around it.
This year, Grades 3 and 4 read Kentsuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. Inspired by this novel, students interpreted several pieces using taiko drums, showing incredible coordination and concentration when playing together, but also displaying their musical creativity with individual drumming moments. The audience was also presented with Japanese inspired drawings projected behind the students, made by third and fourth graders during Art classes.
First and second graders followed, taking the stage to perform a musical version of the book Farmer Duck by Martin Waddell. The children definitely captivated the audience with their cheerful singing and great acting skills and the story unfolded. Grades 1 and 2 also illustrated this story with colorful drawings of the farm animals and the lazy farmer.
At the end of the story, Grades 3 and 4 students quietly re-entered the theater and sang Bruno Mars' "Count on Me" together with first and second grader, creating a grand finale to this show.
Thank you to all students involved for their wonderful performance, and a very special thanks to our teachers Ms. Leslie, Ms. Helen e Ms. Dawn for their hard work preparing this show.
