On October 19th, parents of our youngest students gathered in the Art Gallery for a presentation by Ms. Katie about how young children learn to read. They heard about the various skills involved in learning to read, and how the curriculum develops student proficiency in combining these skills for our children to become successful readers. As adults and fluent readers, most of us have forgotten how difficult this challenge is for children. The most powerful message in this presentation was the importance of parents reading with young children on a daily basis. A child who reads for pleasure has a greater chance of academic success at every level of education.
