The 12th annual Junior Model United Nations (JMUN) was CAISL's biggest ever to this day. Six local international schools participated and discussed issues related to the theme of the conference, Human Rights. The conference was opened with a keynote address from Ms. Francisca M., Advocacy Officer, UNICEF Portugal, who spoke about the importance of having equitable access to resources, including water. On the agenda were challenging issues such as the question of gender equality and empowering females, the question of ensuring online privacy, and the question of the right to education. The General Assembly debated resolutions for the question of refugees fleeing persecution in war zones, and for the first time ever we had a Special Conference room debating the question of the protection of migrants. CAISL students from 5th through 11th Grade participated. The 5th Grade were press officers, 6-8th Graders were delegates, and the High School led the conference through organizing the day and chairing the debates. The lively debates identified many successful solutions for addressing issues that we face in the world today, and hopefully foundations have been laid to have students take a more active role in shaping the world they live in.
