World Surf Resort, Ericeira, was the chosen location for this year's Middle School camping adventure. Although students remained firmly on dry land throughout, they did get to visit three different local beaches in the pursuit of team-building, bonding and creativity. Activities were arranged by advisory groups or by grade levels to get to know each other better. Students participated in a wide variety of activities ranging from the cultural experience of a typical breakfast in a local café, to answering questions on a scavenger hunt hike, to competing to build the tallest sand castle. Fun and games were blended with the responsibility and independence of tent life, and students recognized the importance of working together in order to be more successful when facing challenges. Teachers have incorporated camp-related follow up to their classes based on the experience. A fantastic time was had by all, but I will leave the final words to Duarte R., a 7th Grade student who wrote this poem in Portuguese class.
Na semana antes desta fui acampar
Era mesmo o que estava a sonhar.
Atividades divertidas, dia e noite sem fim
Esta experiência foi excelente para mim.
