Languages & Language Support
CAISL offers a wide range of languages and language support. While classes are taught in English, Portuguese, both as a native language and a foreign language, is emphasized through daily instruction in the Elementary School and through elective course choices in the Middle and High Schools. A Guide to explain the philosophy of language use and learning at CAISL can be found here: Languages at CAISL.
For students who are unfamiliar with English or whose mother tongue is something other than English, language support is available in the form of English for Speakers of other Languages (ESL) classes. Students will be given support based on their individual needs and will receive support in small groups. For students who are non-native speakers of English and desiring admission into CAISL´s high school, please refer to our guidelines here.
French, Spanish, and Chinese as foreign languages are offered to students beginning in Grade 7. Other languages may be studied at the IB Diploma level at the discretion of the IB Coordinator and Secondary Principal.
