College Board Exams
CAISL serves as a testing center for SAT, Advanced Placement (AP) and ACT exams.
AP Exams
CAISL is authorized by the College Board to administer Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Students interested in taking an AP exam must contact CAISL no later than October for exams scheduled the following May (October 2025 for May 2026 exams). Registration is limited, and early registration is strongly recommended.

Requirements & Process for SAT and AP Exam Score Validation
CAISL’s Director is authorized to validate SAT and AP exam results for external students applying to Portuguese universities. There is no charge for this service.
PRE-CONDITIONS
- Students must hold a High School diploma from an American or American International High School. The Portuguese Ministry of Education (DGE) must first grant equivalência before SAT or AP results can be validated. Information about this process for students living in Portugal can be found on the DGE website (link).
- CAISL can validate any SAT or AP exam; however, CNAES determines whether the exam may substitute for the required entrance “prova” for Portuguese universities. CAISL is not involved in that decision.
- Score conversion from the SAT/AP scale to the Portuguese grading system is also completed by CNAES, not by CAISL.

VALIDATION
Validation must be done in person by the student who earned the High School Diploma and took the SAT/AP exams. At the validation meeting, the student must present:
- Proof of identification (passport or other government-issued ID)
- Certificate of equivalência of the American High School Diploma from DGE
- Original or authenticated copy of the high school transcript showing courses, grades, and credits earned
- A printed SAT/AP score report from the student’s College Board account (the student should also bring their login information in case verification is needed.)
