Fine Arts

Finding Voice Through Creativity

CAISL offers a rich fine arts program from Early Childhood through Grade 12, encouraging exploration, technique, understanding of others, and positive self-expression.

Art in Elementary

Visual Art

In EC3 and EC4, a specialist visual arts teacher visits the classroom, bringing a variety of materials and creative tools that invite exploration and experimentation. From Kindergarten through Grade 5, students continue working with specialist art teachers in the art room, where they learn about artists and techniques while creating individual and collaborative pieces for display.

Music

From EC3 through Grade 4, students enjoy music lessons twice a week in a dedicated music room with specialist teachers. Children learn nursery rhymes and rhythms, explore movement and dance, sing together as a choir, and discover a variety of instruments, including xylophones, drums and other percussion instruments, recorders, and ukuleles. Twice a year, families are invited to a musical performance, allowing students to build confidence and experience the joy of sharing their learning with an audience.

Gr. 5 Arts

In Grade 5, students expand their performing arts journey by exploring Choir, String Orchestra, and Drama over the course of the year, building skills and confidence ahead of the elective opportunities available in Secondary School.

5th graders also continue their visual art classes twice a week.

Art in Secondary

Visual Arts

From Grade 6 Visual Arts becomes an elective. Art is increasingly experimental over these years, accompanying students through a period of self-discovery, reflection, and creative risk-taking. Students also visit art exhibitions often.

Each year, the Grade 12 Art Exhibition celebrates this artistic journey, showcasing how students have grown in their ability to interpret the world around them and express their perspectives through art.

Music

Choir and Orchestra students perform regularly for parents in age-appropriate settings, gaining confidence, poise, and the joy of sharing their talents with an audience.

For those who wish to audition, international musical experiences offer the opportunity to collaborate with students from other schools, creating and performing concerts that celebrate creativity, teamwork, and global connections.

Drama

Middle and High School students have the opportunity to explore a range of Drama electives, including Musical Theater, Exploratory Drama, Theater Studies, Film, and more. These courses are designed to nurture students’ talents, creativity, and passion for the performing arts. Musical Theater and Drama performances are highlights of the school year, eagerly anticipated by the whole community.

High School students enrolled in Drama electives can also participate in ISTA, an international arts program that encourages experimental creation and performance, giving students the chance to collaborate with peers from schools around the world.

Celebrating Musical Excellence at CAISL

On May 20th, CAISL celebrated an evening dedicated to music and student achievement, honoring new Tri-M Music Honor Society inductees, showcasing performances submitted to the AMIS Online Festival, and marking a special farewell performance by the 10th grade orchestra students. Led entirely by students, the event concluded with a cupcake reception celebrating their accomplishments and musical journey.

CAISL at AMIS 2026 MS Honor Orchestra

We are proud to share that CAISL 8th grade students Emma G. and Vienn B. took part in the AMIS 2026 Middle School Honor Orchestra in The Hague!

After a highly competitive audition process, they joined outstanding young musicians from around the world for an unforgettable musical and cultural experience, culminating in a beautiful concert at the historic Marekerk in Leiden.

A wonderful achievement and a memorable experience — well done!

From May 15th to the 17th, CAISL's 8th grade students Emma G. and Vienn B. participated in the AMIS 2026 MS Honor Orchestra, hosted by the American School of The Hague. This prestigious festival requires students to audition for a spot, and the competition is fierce — depending on the instrument, for every student selected, one to three others did not make it in. What is achieved at these festivals is truly magical. Students grow not only as musicians, but as global citizens — developing an appreciation for other cultures, strong work ethics, perseverance, teamwork, and meaningful personal connections. No individual participant school has an ensemble of that size or caliber, but by combining forces through a challenging audition process, we are able to create an elite festival experience for high-achieving students.

The festival culminated in a concert performed at the historic Marekerk in Leiden — a breathtaking venue that added a truly special dimension to the experience. My co-chaperone, Ms. Elizabeth Strausbaugh, and I were incredibly proud of how eagerly our students embraced the culture of our host city. They were, as always, polite, well-mannered, and musically dedicated to giving their very best. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the parents for making this opportunity possible, and to our school's administration for their generous and full support of these events.

Next year, CAISL will host the 2027 AMIS HS Honor Orchestra — we look forward to welcoming an amazing musical event to our community!”
