Every school day has a story to tell!

CAISL’s rich and varied curriculum makes each day unique. Whether students are learning a new letter of the alphabet, carrying out an exciting science experiment, singing a high note, or scoring the basket that takes their team to victory, every school day has a story to tell.

For security reasons, the day-to-day calendar is only available on the private part of this site. Please check the Parent Portal, the Student Portal or the Staff Portal accordingly.

Our American educational philosophy offers students a balanced approach to learning, integrating academics, the arts, and athletics.

This balance allows students to develop their individual strengths while also building confidence and skills in areas that may challenge them. From Early Childhood (EC3) through Grade 5, all students participate in Portuguese, Art, Music, Physical Education, and Technology (beginning in Kindergarten) as part of their regular school day. These subjects are taught by specialist teachers who bring depth and expertise to each learning experience.

Students visit the Library at least once a week—often twice—to select their next book, enjoy imaginative storytelling sessions, and develop a love of reading.

Learning at CAISL continues beyond the classroom. A wide range of after-school activities is available each day, and the Libraries remain open until 5:00 p.m., allowing students and families to enjoy the space together.

From Grade 6 onward, students may choose one two elective subjects per semester from a wide range of offerings, including visual and performing arts, languages, technology, and other areas of interest.

These electives allow students to explore their passions, develop new skills, and support their growth as lifelong learners.

Students are also encouraged to take part in a variety of cocurricular and extracurricular activities. While participation is optional, these experiences play an important role in building self-confidence, a sense of service, and a strong feeling of belonging within the school community.

Popular options include Model United Nations, team sports, and community service initiatives. Each year, new clubs also emerge through student initiative, with guidance from teachers. Recent examples include Chess Club, Debate, and Science Club—created by students to reflect their interests and curiosity. CAISL also runs National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, and the Thespian Troup, in recognition of students who stand out in their contributions to our school life.

School Year

A typical calendar year runs from September to June, and comprises:

  • a small Thanksgiving break in November,
  • a two week winter break in December/early January,
  • a small Carnival Break around February/March,
  • a two week Spring Break around April,
  • a two month Summer Break in July and August.

Academically, the school year is broken into four quarters and two semesters with a balanced number of instruction days. The end/beginning of the quarters are not necessarily aligned with the breaks.
