Early Childhood

The first steps into an exciting journey

For many children this is their first schooling experience, and one of the utmost importance.

CAISL’s Early Childhood program includes children from the age of three through five and provides the students with a learning environment that is social in nature, secure, and with a stimulating learning climate for all the students.

Curriculum and instruction are designed to develop self-esteem, a sense of competence and positive feelings toward learning, which students can carry on onto the rest of their schooling years.

CAISL’s preschool is divided into two Early Childhood 3 and 4 years old classes and two Kindergarten (5 years old) classes. Each class has a maximum of 20 students, with two homeroom teachers.

During the school day, teachers speak English and, at designated times Portuguese, introducing the children to both languages through storytelling, games, and other activities aimed at the children’s interests. Besides homeroom teachers, our students have specialist lessons in music, art and physical education.

Classrooms are spacious and equipped with their own bathroom, work and play areas. Students also have access to an age appropriate playground, allowing for independent play and socialization time.
Every school day is a great one in preschool!

CAISL is a student-centered educational community in which we challenge ourselves and each other to do our best and to make positive contributions to our diverse and ever-changing world.

Standards-Based Reporting (SBR)

SBR is a system adopted by CAISL in which the student is assessed on individual “Performance Indicators” or, in simpler terms, “skills” and “knowledge.”    Reports of student progress are focused on a collection of similar Performance Indicators within a subject, rather than one “grade” for the entire subject.
