(Please become familiar with the whole process before submitting an application. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact Admissions.)

Please submit the following requested documents. 

• The student's school records for the last three years. If the applicant does not have three years of history due to their young age, please provide all available records, even if it's only one or two years.
• Standardized testing results, such as, but not limited to, MAP or Iowa (USA) or SATS or (I)GCSE (UK).
• Other information. If such exist, please submit any testing results/reports as prompted by the application form such as educational-psychological testing, individual educational plan, medical report, etc.

If any of the documents are in a language other than English or Portuguese, they must be translated into one of these languages.

An application fee of 100 Euros is required to process your application.

Please remember to submit proof of payment under the checklist items on your dashboard.

This fee is non-refundable, even if the application does not result in enrollment.

Decisions regarding a child's admission are made by a team including a member of the Admissions Team, the appropriate Principal (Elementary or Secondary), and the Director. Additional specialists, such as the Support Services Coordinator, EAL Coordinator, IB Coordinator, or School Nurse, may also be involved as needed.

Communication about applications and the decisions are via the Admissions Team.

In considering the application for admission, the decision is based on two factors:

• The Academic and Behavioral record of the Child. 

• Space in Grade/Program

Once a class is full, no new enrollments are accepted until a spot becomes available. Due to the international nature of the school, there may be unexpected departures throughout the school year. To maximize your chances of securing a place, we recommend applying as early as possible. 

The availability of specialized programs such as Learning Support, English as an Additional Language (EAL), Nursing/Medical care, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) is also needed. Even if a grade has available spots, there may be no space in these specialized programs, which could impact the student's acceptance.

FOR THE EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM

(EC3, EC4 and Kindergarten)

Please note that Early Childhood applicants must meet the following age requirements by September 1st:

• Three years old to apply to EC3
• Four years old to apply to EC4
• Five years old to apply to Kindergarten
• Six years old to apply to Grade 1

Applicants must also be independent in using a bathroom, and able to feed themselves using a fork and spoon.

FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM

(9, 10, 11 and 12th grades)

Students applying to CAISL’s High School who are not yet academically fluent in English and whose records do not demonstrate sufficient English proficiency for the High School program will need to take a language assessment test. This test will help determine if their English skills are adequate for success in the program and thus eligible for admission.

Testing will only be done when there is space in Grade and in the Program. 

After the application has been reviewed, there are four possible outcomes:

1. If there is space in the grade and the applicant is eligible, a place is offered.
2. If there is no space in the grade but the applicant is eligible, the student is placed in the wait pool until a place becomes available.
3. If there is no space in the grade and the applicant appears eligible but requires further testing to confirm, the student is placed in the wait pool. Testing will be conducted once a place becomes available to determine eligibility.
4. The applicant is not eligible.

Children whose complete application package has been reviewed and are “eligible for admission” but with no space in the grade or the program needed, may, at parent’s request, be put in the Wait Pool for the school year they are applying into. Applications are not automatically considered for the school year after and an update will be requested by the admissions team, should the family still be interested in a spot. 

It is impossible to predict when or if a place will become available.

When space becomes available in a particular grade and/or program, the applications of every child in the Wait Pool are reconsidered and offers are made based on the academic/behavioral records submitted.

An additional factor in making enrollment offers is the list of priorities below:

PRIORITY LIST

1. Current CAISL re-enrolling students
2. Students whose parents are US Government employees.
3. Students who are coming from American or American International Schools.
4. Students who are coming from schools whose primary language of instruction is English.
5. Students who come from bilingual schools or are linguistically unable to attend a school whose instructional language is Portuguese.
6. Students who are linguistically able to attend a school whose instructional language is Portuguese.
