Transformation Masks
Middle School art and Middle School Exploratory Art presented "Transformation Masks" exhibition.
Working with visiting artist Andrew Harrison, students in the middle school art classes created masks based on the transformation that happens in Brazilian Carnivale, where a person can transform their identity to become someone else.
First, students thought about the qualities they wanted to accentuate in themselves, and the image they wanted their masks to present to the world. Some wanted to be more assertive and bold, some wanted to be more calm and peaceful and some wanted to show the conflicting forces of their personality.
