Despite the heat, blazing sun and steep hills of the Alfama, grades 9 and 10 had a great time on CAISL’s traditional Lisbon/Belém scavenger hunt. Grade 9 explored the monument abundant area of Belém, as far east as the modern Coach Museum and as far west as the Monumento Combatentes Ultramar Lisboa. Grade 10 wound their way from Praça do Comércio, the Alfama and then down to the Rossio. Students were divided into groups of five and accompanied by one teacher, answering dozens of questions designed to unveil the rich culture of Lisbon. Groups kept hydrated and dodged in and out of airconditioned spots to reenergize and battle the heat. New friendships were formed and everyone came away from the experience with a renewed appreciation for the history and beauty of Lisbon.
