Math Concepts by 1st Grade

First graders in Ms. Robbie´s class bit into some challenging math concepts – fractions.  Ms. Robbie asked her students, “ why if 10 was larger than 4,  would 1/10 also be larger than 1/4?” Students applied practical reason to this answer – especially when given the choice of a slice of pizza. One tenth is smaller – the pizza is cut up in 10 pieces and the pieces are smaller,” claimed one hungry mathematician.

Math and pizza is always a good combination for grade one learners!
