πŸ”¬ Hands-On Science: Pig Organ Dissection – Animal Anatomy and Physiology class

Last week, our high school students had the opportunity to participate in a highly engaging dissection session led by Mr. Rocha and the Science Club members. This activity was open to participants from Grades 9–12, and a large number of students attended, showing great interest and enthusiasm for the experience.

Before the dissection began, Mr. Rocha provided a detailed explanation of how each organ functions, ensuring students understood the anatomy and purpose of the systems they were about to explore. He also clarified an important point: all the organs used in the session came from animals already destined for food production. No animals were sacrificed specifically for this educational activity. Additionally, the organs were certified by a veterinarian at the slaughterhouse, guaranteeing they were safe and free from infection, and will later be used for animal food. No waste!

During the session, students had the chance to dissect a pig’s heart, respiratory system, brain, and kidneys. They examined each organ closely, discovering structures firsthand and making connections to their everyday life and what they have learned in class. Throughout the demonstration students asked thoughtful questions and engaged in meaningful discussions between them and with the Science Club members, deepening their understanding of animal anatomy and physiology.

The excitement and curiosity in the room made the session a memorable and valuable learning experience for everyone involved and students even had the opportunity to take home a small Science Club gift. Congratulations to Angel Z. and her amazing team for helping in making this morning a especial one!
