Along the full morning of Wednesday, March 22nd, 32 CAISL Ecolution Club members together with several CAISL Ecolution PSG members went to visit a no-less-than-amazing mushroom farm in central Lisbon – Nãm Mushroom Farm. Supported by a highly motivated young team of workers and its founder, Natan Jacquemin, our students and parents had the chance of understanding how one of the most sustainable circular-economy businesses work. From a basic mixture of coffee grounds and straw, undergoing a technical process of sterilization and kept under controlled conditions, tasty Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) are produced in a matter of 6 to 7 weeks, being later sold in the surrounding markets of Marvila region. Everyone had the chance to taste the quality of the product, deliciously cooked “on the spot” for us, Ecolution Elem students asked the most amazing questions and Ecolution HS members even had the chance to exchange some words on the entrepreneurism challenge with Natan. We all brought our own individual mushroom growing kits, which are now starting to sprout. What a great morning it was!
