Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming three distinguished alumni back to our campus: Mr. Glenn C., who studied with us between 1967 and 1971, Ms. Ida C., who graduated in 1967, and Mr. Ricardo E., who graduated in 1985. These alumni shared fond memories of their time at St. Columban’s when the school campus was in Carnaxide.
Mr. Glenn C., who traveled from the U.S. with his wife, spoke nostalgically about how his experiences here shaped who he is today. He fondly recalled the strong relationships he built with classmates and faculty and how learning to play soccer at school allowed him to impress others later in life. His wife confirmed how much those years meant to him and shared her appreciation of his cherished memories.
Mr. Ricardo E., the 1985 graduate, expressed similar gratitude for the friendships and experiences that shaped him, particularly the value of studying alongside an international community. He also remembered Mr. Mackenna, the school’s founding director, whose leadership left a lasting impact on all students.
Ms. Ida C., after graduating in 1967, returned to St. Columban’s as a staff member and worked with us until quite recently. The other two alumni were impressed by how warmly she was received by the current staff, reflecting the strong, lasting bonds formed at our school.
They were impressed with how far the school has come since their time, particularly the improvements to the facilities. Additionally, they commented on how happy and welcoming everyone on campus seemed, noting the “sincere smiles” they observed among both faculty and staff.
The alumni also had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Chapman, the school director, and thoroughly enjoyed learning about the school’s vision for the future. They were enthusiastic about the positive direction in which the school is heading.
It was a wonderful opportunity to hear their stories and memories, and to learn more about our school’s rich history.
We were delighted to welcome them back to CAISL, and they are always welcome to return!
