CAISL at the Largest and Oldest MUN Conference in Europe

CAISL at the Largest and Oldest MUN Conference in Europe

It was with great anticipation that our group of 20 grade 10-12 students departed for 55th annual session of The Hague International Model United Nations Conference as the event had only been held online the past two years.  CAISL was assigned two delegations this year to accommodate our large group:  the State of Palestine and Poland, both requiring dexterity and sharp knowledge to represent accurately.  To enable this, we arranged for officials from the Polish Embassy and the Palestinian Mission, both in The Hague, to speak with our groups on Sunday afternoon.  Each presented an overview of general policy and expertly fielded questions from our delegates.  But prior to this, our group spent an active, culture-rich weekend in Amsterdam where we visited the Rijksmuseum, Dutch Resistance Museum, the Stedelijk Museum, the Anne Frank House and took a canal boat cruise.

During the course of the four day conference itself, delegates lobbied, merged and debated their previously written resolutions, many of which revolved around the overarching conference theme of “The Future of Borders.”  CAISL delegates actively participated in this process and we had one student Officer who chaired in ECOSOC.  In addition to the academic side of the conference, many new friendships were made and renewed:  THIMUN is the largest and oldest MUN conference in Europe and this year (rebounding from the pandemic) it attracted some 2,000 delegates from approximately 150 schools worldwide.
