Inspiring the best in each student
A dedicated faculty and staff make CAISL’s mission a reality, challenging each other and students to do their best and improve every day.
All of our faculty members are fluent English speakers, and about 70% of our core subject teachers are native speakers or "program carriers", having studied or taught in American schools.
While many of our teachers stay at CAISL for a long time, we do have newcomers every year, making our faculty a quite dynamic one.
Though teachers do bring in different ideas and ways of teaching, all match teaching expectations as defined by CAISL, such as ensuring student active learning and participation, differentiating teaching depending on students (individually or in group), and inspiring a life-long love for learning.
Teacher training
Professional Development and training is of utmost importance and happens every year:
- In August new teachers attend a few days of "new faculty orientation" and all teachers have an additional full week of orientation and preparation for the year ahead.
- CAISL brings consultants in different areas of expertise to work with our Faculty. A frequent visitor is Erma Anderson that comes to work with our Math and Science teachers on “best practice” for Common Core Math and Next Generation Science Standards. Another example is Beth Skelton, who comes annually to work with teachers on strategies to teach a multilingual student population.
- Specific Professional Development is always available to teachers and staff, so they can improve their skills and knowledge. Depending on the subject, training sessions or conferences can be held in Portugal, in Europe, and even in the United States.
- Online and in-house training is always encouraged, and CAISL subscribes services and is member of professional organizations that provide webinars, and online training.
