Post-Secondary Counseling

Empowering informed, confident choices after High School

CAISL works in partnership with students and families to provide guidance through the complex range of post-secondary options available worldwide.

(…) When students contemplate their futures, it can result in some overwhelm or even “thinking paralysis.” This is when I often see students avoiding any kind of planning, or even conversations about planning. It’s just too much, too abstract—maybe even a little scary. My goal is to break down this BIG leap into logical, more manageable ones (…). Most of the time, a little momentum leads to more, or, at the very least, students start to identify where they might need a little more support. Jenni Fuller
Post-Secondary Counselor

We use a ‘best fit’ approach, encouraging a student-driven and parent-informed decision process as a result of a well-researched examination of institutions and self-reflection about their values, needs and aptitudes. Through one-on-one discussions, group information sessions, and parental involvement, we help our students discover what they want out of the next part of their journey so that they can achieve the best personal, academic, and professional results.

Post-Secondary Counseling includes students in Grades 9 through 12.

Selecting Universities

Students learn about different university systems in dedicated college counseling sessions.

They do research on courses and programs, and participate in visits from admissions representatives and other CAISL outreach programs such as career fairs and meetings with alumni.

Two Diploma Options

CAISL students take a course of study which leads to the American High School Diploma, with the option of also studying for the IB Diploma.

A CAISL student may study for and achieve two internationally valid Diplomas which can be used strategically to apply for college in the USA, UK, Portugal, and many others worldwide.

Applying

  • Students brainstorm ideas for their personal statements and essays.
  • Discuss the various parts of university applications,
  • Meet with the counselor to consider summer plans and strategize,
  • Write their essays with feedback from the counselor,
  • Complete the applications to the schools of their choice.

External Exams

CAISL is an approved testing center for College Board (PSAT, SAT and AP) and ACT exams.
