CAISL Scholarship Open
The application process for the CAISL Scholarship is now open until January 31.
Please read below all the details needed to learn more about the school and complete an application.
Note that current families are not eligible to apply. Students awarded a scholarship will start in September of 2023.

Would you like to join CAISL?
The CAISL Scholarship is a merit-driven award that also considers the student's financial need. Applications will be accepted from those currently attending Grades 4 through 10 and entering Grade 5 through Grade 11 in 2023-2024. The Scholarship covers all required fees. (tuition, building fee, and registration fee).*
For the 2023-2024 school year, CAISL expects to award a very limited number of scholarships.
Although this scholarship is granted for one academic year, it is hoped that students who receive it will continue to meet the requirements and be awarded the scholarship for consecutive years, through graduation from the High School in the 12th Grade.
*There are other school fees that are not required and therefore not covered such as lunch and transportation. For information about all of the school school fees please look here.
How to Apply
To apply to the CAISL Scholarship, please:
- Download and fill in the application form;
- Gather official school reports for first term of the 2022-2023 school year and all terms from the 2021-2022 and the 2020-2021 school years;
- Gather at least two recommendation letters from current teachers and/or activity sponsors who can provide information on the student’s positive engagement in programs and activities. At least one must be from a current or recent teacher. These may not be family members.
Each of these documents must be sent together in the same email or envelope. Applications missing any of the elements will not be considered.

Note: Candidates who are selected for the short-list and interview process will need to to present documentation that proves financial need and inability to independently pay CAISL fees. Documentation will be analyzed by the CAISL Business Office. More information may be found below under Evidence of Financial Resources.
Deadlines
January 31st
Last day to send applications by email or post mail. Any applications received by email or postmarked beyond this date will not be considered.
March 15th-24th
Short-listed candidates are contacted for interview and at this point will need to present evidence of inability to afford CAISL fees.
March 27th-31st
Final selection and offer of the scholarship.
Requirements
This scholarship is for students who are Portuguese citizens or have permanent residency in Portugal and are currently attending Grade 4 through 10 in the current (2022-2023) school year.
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
- Grades on the scale of 1-5: Average of 4 or more, without any grade of 2 or less;
- Grades on the scale of 1-20: Average of 16 or more, without any grade of 12 or less.
BEHAVIOR REQUIREMENTS
- Role model for other students in behavior and attitude.
- Positive involvement in school-sponsored extracurricular activities, sports, and/or community service.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Only for students applying to Grade 9 or above. For Grades 9 and 10, English needs to be at intermediate or higher level, depending on the year the student is applying for; for grade 11, applicants have to be bilingual. Short-Listed students for these grades will take an English test administered by CAISL.
Evidence of Financial Resources (After pre-selection)
Once candidates are short-listed, their families will be asked to provide evidence of insufficient financial resources to pay CAISL tuition and other CAISL expenses.
The information below will be necessary and should be prepared in advance:
- The last two salary receipts from the current fiscal year and employer - certified letters stating yearly salary, all allowances, and all benefits from the previous fiscal year;
- Global Position (Assets and Liabilities) accessed via e-banking for all Portuguese and Out of Country Banks;
- Copies of documents as proof of outstanding loans - only if different from point 2;
- Global position for other investments (ex. treasury certificates) - only if different from point 2;
- “Património Predial" from Finanças site for the fiscal numbers of each parent/ guardian and companies (if applicable) or documents proving ownership of real state elsewhere;
- “Cadastro de viaturas automóveis” from Finanças site for the fiscal numbers of each parent/legal guardian and companies (if applicable);
- Tax return records for the preceding two years; if the tax return for the most recent year is not yet available, a simulation must be submitted;
- Modelo 22 tax return for the preceding two years in the case of ownership of a company. If Modelo 22 of the most recent year is not available, the last “Balancete” and/or “Balanço” and “Demonstração de Resultados” must be submitted;
- Copies of any document used for calculation of assets and expenses.

Quer juntar-se à CAISL?
A CAISL Scholarship é uma bolsa de estudo de mérito, que considera também a necessidade financeira do aluno, e é dirigida a estudantes atualmente entre o 4º e o 10º ano, a entrar a partir do 5º ao 11º anos em 2023-2024. Esta bolsa inclui todas as quantias obrigatórias (propina, building fee e matrícula)*.
Para o ano letivo 2023-2024, a CAISL espera atribuir um número muito limitado de bolsas.
A bolsa é atribuída por um ano letivo, embora a expectativa seja que os bolseiros mantenham o seu mérito escolar e que esta seja renovada nos anos consecutivos até se graduarem no 12º ano.
*Existem despesas escolares não obrigatórias e não cobertas pela bolsa, tais como o almoço e o transporte. Para mais informação sobre todos os valores em vigor, consulte esta página.
Como concorrer
Para fazer a candidatura é necessário:
- Fazer download e preencher o formulário de candidatura;
- Reunir os relatórios escolares oficiais para o primeiro período do ano letivo de 2022-2023 e todos os períodos letivos de 2021-2022 e 2020-2021;

Reunir pelo menos duas cartas de recomendação de professores atuais e / ou professores de atividades extra-curriculares. Pelo menos uma deve ser de um professor atual ou recente. Estas cartas não podem ser escritas por membros da família.
Todos estes elementos devem ser enviados juntos, no mesmo e-mail ou envelope. As candidaturas às quais falte algum destes elementos não serão consideradas válidas.

Os candidatos pré-selecionados são contactados para entrevista e apresentação de comprovativos de insuficiência de recursos financeiros para suportar a propina da CAISL.

Seleção final e atribuição da bolsa.
Requisitos
Esta bolsa destina-se a estudantes que sejam cidadãos portugueses ou tenham residência permanente em Portugal, e que frequentem atualmente qualquer ano de escolaridade do 4º ao 10º (ano letivo 2022-2023).
REQUISITOS ACADÉMICOS
- Notas na escala de 1 a 5: Média de 4 ou mais, sem qualquer nota de 2 ou menos;
- Notas na escala de 1 a 20: Média de 16 ou mais, sem qualquer nota de 12 ou menos.
REQUISITOS DE COMPORTAMENTO
- Serem modelos em comportamento e atitude para outros alunos.
- Envolvimento positivo em atividades extracurriculares patrocinadas pela escola, desportivas, e/ou serviço comunitário.
REQUISITOS DE DOMÍNIO DE LÍNGUA
Só existem requisitos de Inglês para alunos que se estejam a candidatar ao 9º ano ou acima: Para o 9º e 10 anos, nível intermédio ou mais elevado, dependendo do ano a que o aluno se candidata; alunos que estejam a concorrer ao 11º ano precisam de ser bilingues. Alunos pré-selecionados nesta categoria, terão de fazer um teste de Inglês administrado pela CAISL.
Avaliação de Recursos Financeiros (depois da pré-seleção)
Às famílias de candidatos pré-selecionados, será pedido que forneçam evidências de recursos financeiros insuficientes para pagar as mensalidades e outras despesas da CAISL.
Os documentos abaixo serão necessários e devem ser preparados com antecedência
- Os dois recibos de ordenado mais recentes do ano fiscal atual; declaração certificada pela entidade patronal de salário anual, subsídios e prémios ou complementos referentes ao ano fiscal anterior;
- Posicionamento global bancário (ativos e passivos), conforme demonstrado por sistema de e-banking de todas as contas bancárias em Portugal e/ou no estrangeiro;
- Cópias de comprovativos de empréstimos bancários, se diferente do ponto 2;
- Posicionamento global de outros investimentos (ex: certificados de tesouro), se diferente do ponto 2;
- Património Predial de acordo com o portal das Finanças, associado ao número de contribuinte de cada um dos pais e/ou empresas por eles detidas (se aplicável); e/ou comprovativos de património imóvel no estrangeiro;
- Cadastro de viaturas automóveis de acordo com o portal das Finanças associado ao número de contribuinte de cada um dos pais e/ou empresas por eles detidas (se aplicável)
- Declaração de IRS dos dois anos anteriores. Caso a declaração mais recente ainda não esteja disponível, deverá submeter uma simulação;
- Para encarregados de educação que possuam empresa própria, é necessário apresentar a declaração de IRC Modelo 22 para os dois anos anteriores. Caso a declaração mais recente não esteja disponível, o último balancete ou balanço e a demonstração de resultados terão de ser submetidos;
- Cópias de documentos usados para cálculo de ativos e de despesas.
