CAISL – Recognized and Approved
A fully accredited school, CAISL operates legally in Portugal with a permanent authorization to offer an American curricular program for all grades (EC3 through 12th).
Authorizations
The American curriculum program allows students to transfer in and out of the Portuguese national system at the same grade equivalent through 9th Grade. CAISL is authorized to award an American High School Diploma to those CAISL students who successfully complete all requirements.
CAISL continues to be authorized by the IB Organization to offer the IB Diploma Program and this is also recognized as part of CAISL's permanent license from the Portuguese Ministry of Education.
Accreditation
CAISL is accredited by the Middle States Association (MSA) Commission on Elementary and Secondary Education. Accreditation is a process by which the school is reviewed by a team of educational peers to ensure that it meets standards of “best practice.” CAISL’s Team Visit occurred in the Fall of 2021 and in May of 2022 we were awarded accreditation for the next 7 years. Learn all about it here.
Assistance
CAISL is the only "assisted school" in Portugal from the Office of Overseas Schools of the United States Department of State.
Being the only school in Portugal with support from the Department of State, CAISL works closely with and is guided by the Office of Overseas Schools and its designated Regional Education Officer (REO). The REO stays in regular contact and pays on-site visits to ensure that we are providing students with an excellent American educational program coordinated with other American schools around the world.
