SUMMER READING - Grades 2-5

Welcome to CAISL Summer Reading!!

Each grade level at CAISL has a book or books that all students in the class will read this summer. But this is not all the reading that students will be doing this summer.  Students may borrow more books from the CAISL Library or may find some interesting titles at home or during summer adventures.

In addition to the print books students will be carrying home they will have access to books on www.raz-kids.com.  Every elementary student will be registered in the summer reading program on this website.  They will be set at the DRA reading level they have reached during the school year which will give them a number of books they can read and listen to.  There are quizzes at the end of each book so students can ensure they really understand what they are reading.  When ready, students can move up to the next level and keep reading.  In August, teachers will get a summary of what books students have read, how well they did on the quizzes and at what reading level they are.

The 2010-2011 school year will begin with activities related to the following books:

Students going into 2nd Grade
"Dinosaurs before Dark" by Mary Pope Osborne

Students going into 3rd Grade
"Flat Stanley" by Jeff Brown

Students going into 4th Grade
"The Case of the Dirty Clue" OR "The Secret of the Wooden Witness" by George E. Stanley

Students going into 5th Grade
"Hoot" by Carl Hiaasen  OR  "Charlotte's Web" by E.B. White
