AMAC Tournament: Close games and plenty of team spirit for all

This year’s AMAC Soccer Tournament was held at Sport União Sintrense in Sinta, April 14-18, 2010. The opening ceremony was held in CAISL secondary atrium and hosted by the High School Student Council. The highlight of the opening ceremony was the unveiling of the CAISL mascot, Alpha the Wolf!

The girls played close games throughout the tournament, finishing 2nd in the round robin with 2 wins and 2 ties. In the semi-final we lost to Rabat on penalties. A tough game to lose, CAISL had lots of opportunities to score in regulation. In the 3rd place game, again after lots of opportunities to score, CAISL lost 0-1. It was the only goal conceded in the tournament! Monica Mesquita, Guida Ferris and Matilde Luce were named to the All Tournament Team. Thanks to all the girls for their hard work and dedication to the team.

The boys went into the tournament as the reigning champs (3 years running!). They finished 3rd in the round robin, winning 2, losing 1 and tying 1.  In the semi-final, we lost to Tunis on a last minute goal. The dream of winning 4 straight tournaments was over! We faced Rabat in the 3rd place game, winning 3-0. Lourenço de Almeida, André Reis and Francisco Lopes were named to the All Tournament Team.

A BIG thank you to all the CAISL families who hosted athletes during the AMAC tournament this year. Your hospitality and support is much appreciated!

Mr. Ferreira
