An Evening of Music and Fun at the Secondary Spring Concert
The Secondary Spring Concert was held on Wednesday, April 7th. This concert featured choir students from 6-12th grade in addition to the CAISL Samba Band. Students from the 6th grade choir performed a traditional French Canadian piece and a spiritual, in addition to several other pieces. The 7th/8th grade choir gave a stunning performance of the Shoshone long song as well as writing additional lyrics for this piece. The sopranos were featured on kazoos for a fun performance of “Barbershop Blues.” The high school choir sang several wonderful pieces from Africa, Italy, and America. The high school choir girls performed the lovely a cappella arrangement of Billy Joel’s “And So It Goes,” and the middle school girls wowed the crowd with a medley of ABBA songs. The 6-12th grade boys showed their skills on a sailor song called “Reuben Ranzo” which featured a flute solo by 9th grader Carlos Goncalves. Playing piano for this concert were the CAISL favorites, 11th grade twins Jonge and Jongjoon Kim. 8th graders Tarik Mishlawi and Mario Mestre were featured on percussion on many of these pieces. Featured vocal soloists were 11th grader Felipe Resina Almeida and 8th grader Mariana Vasconcelos on the popular John Legend piece “If You’re Out There,” which was the final song of the evening. The CAISL Samba Band gave a stellar performance of their original piece “Groove 2010.” It was a fantastic evening of music and fun!
