Students Stage Relief Concert for Haiti

On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, a devastating earthquake hit Haiti, leaving hundreds of thousands of Haitians as victims, and in poverty and distress. This earthquake was to be a terrible incident in their lives and will be remembered forever as the dark shadow in Haitian history.

The story of the Haitian earthquake deeply moved me and my fellow colleagues.  We decided to host a Haitian Benefit Concert that would combine culture and music, and draw on the support of the local community to help with Haitian relief efforts. We then decided to call this concert, A Voice for Haiti.

A Voice for Haiti benefit concert, took immense planning and work. Together my colleagues and I spent tedious hours planning and organizing the event in order to make as much money as possible to contribute to Haitian Relief. We were able to get a great number of performers, from CAISL, St. Dominic’s and St. Julian´s. The night was made a success by the amount of audience members that filled up the CAISL secondary atrium. We had expected 70 people at the most, and were surprised to see more than 150 people in the audience. It brought us joy to see how the CAISL community was able to come together to help the greater good. We made €1000 in cash and about €200 in coins. Special thanks to Laura Centurio, Patricia Martins and Mr. Mollet for taking the initiative to organize this event.
