Students at CAISL's 15th Annual IMUN Conference Take on Real World Issues
|
|
The Iberian Model United Nations Conference (IMUN) is a three-day student-run event in which student delegates take on the roles of UN Member States and NGOs and debate issues from those perspectives. CAISL has hosted the conference for the past 15 years and this year it was another great success with approximately 300 students from 20 schools and 11 countries participating here at CAISL and at the Centro Cultural de Belém from November 12-14. They keynote speaker at the opening ceremony this year was the British Ambassador to Portugal, Mr. Alexander Ellis, who spoke primarily about climate change, using student delegates from various countries to illustrate points, and taking questions from the audience. For the Special Conference, the President of Portugal’s environmental organization Quercus, Dra. Susana Fonseca, spoke about recent developments in climate change policy and the challenges the UN faces in this area. Throughout the conference student delegates convened in the General Assembly, Special Conference and Security Council to debate and develop resolutions on real issues that face the United Nations and the world today. For more information on IMUN visit the IMUN section of our website here. IMUNION, the conference's student newspaper, and an article published by Diário de Notícias are available at the bottom of the page.
